Expertly Crafted Wood Highlights Historic Atlanta Home Renovation
The fifth iteration of House Beautiful’s Whole Home project brought the vaunted interior design magazine to Atlanta, Georgia. This year’s project focused on renovations to a historic home, rather than building a house from the ground up as in years past.Â
Grothouse had the pleasure of working on the Whole Home project for another year in a row. The luxury wood manufacturer collaborated with Ladisic Fine Homes, Pak Heyt & Associates and some of the country’s leading designers to revitalize the 11,000-square-foot home in Atlanta’s Chastain Park neighborhood. From distinct White Oak touches to rich Kensington™ countertops, Grothouse custom wood pieces are featured in five rooms of the Tudor home, including the kitchen, dining lounge, and master suite.
The Kitchen
Working with Whitney Parkinson to create a livable and functional kitchen, Grothouse created an efficient and eye-catching secondary prep area highlighted by vivid Kensingtonâ„¢ countertops. The space is expertly designed to prepare dishes for any occasion. A windowless pass-through, mirrored tile, and under-counter refrigeration drawers all work in conjunction with the expansive counter space to make this prep area more like a second kitchen. Elegant Grothouse countertops continue into the vast walk-in pantry. Coated with Grothouse Original Oilâ„¢, the countertops will remain moisturized and protected for years of use.
Media Room
Alongside designer Keia McSwain, Grothouse let its creative flair shine with brassy-toned Anvil™ countertops and cabinets in the home’s media room. Using the Magnum shade from the manufacturer’s exclusive Anvil™ line and topped with Durata® Waterproof finish, the media room cabinetry serves as a bold conversation piece in the home’s entertainment space.
Dining Area
Custom furniture like an intimate dining table also adds to the overall aesthetic of the Atlanta home. Working with designer Jonathan Savage, Grothouse created a round, fluted pedestal table made from White Oak with a darkened ceruse finish. The table is surrounded by skirted
armchairs designed by Lee Industries, and is located in the entry area, which is intended to function as a dining room, lounge, and gallery. The specific design enhances the comradery of meals and encourages lounging, preferably with a good book.
The homeowners may even enjoy game nights at the table thanks to Grothouse’s bespoke sideboard across the room. This is not only a great anchor piece, but it also can store everything from extra dishes to board games. In partnership with Jonathan Savage, Grothouse designed and manufactured the custom sideboard to complement the dining table, using White Oak, Edge Grain construction and a darkened ceruse finish. The Durata® Waterproof finish in Satin ensures that the wood is protected from scratches and accidental water or wine spills.
Master Bedroom
To allow for more functionality in the master suite, the owners decided to skip the typical nightstands in favor of a vanity on one side and a bedside table on the other. Grothouse worked with Mark William Design, using White Oak and detailed accents to enhance the romantic sensibility of the master bedroom.
Guest Suite
Partnering with Brynn Olson Design Group for the guest suite, Grothouse added a desktop to a wall of custom cabinetry. The White Oak countertops contrast with the glossy blue cabinets and brass inlays from Architectural Grille. The cabinetry hides hotel-style amenities like a microwave, refrigerator drawers, and a television. It’s a hidden gem that allows guests to feel like they have their own luxurious living space.
The House Beautiful Whole Home project is a show-stopping project, which presented an opportunity for collaborations with a renowned home builder, architect, and dozens of gifted designers. A variety of expertly crafted wood pieces fill this exquisite Atlanta home, from the bedside vanity to the expansive kitchen and pantry countertops. Each custom-crafted piece from Grothouse brings a unique infusion of beauty and function to the reimagined 1950s ranch.
