Saxon Woodâ„¢ Counters | Construction Styles

When designing Saxon Woodâ„¢ Countertops, you must first decide which Construction Style you want depending on your desired use for the counter. Saxon Woodâ„¢ is available in End Grain Construction and Flat Grain Construction.

End Grain Construction is the premium construction style for direct food preparation. End Grain Countertops are typically referred to as Butcher Blocks. Saxon Woodâ„¢ End Grain Butcher Blocks have a required minimum thickness of 2-1/2 inches. The image shown above is a Saxon Woodâ„¢ Butcher Block.

Flat grain Construction is generally preferred for an aesthetic furniture surface that enhances the grain of the wood. Flat Grain Construction is commonly known as Wide Plank Style. Saxon Woodâ„¢ Flat Grain Counters have a required minimum thickness of 1-3/4 inches. The image shown above is a Flat Grain Saxon Woodâ„¢ Counter.

Saxon Woodâ„¢ Counters | Finishes

Saxon Woodâ„¢ Butcher Blocks are finished with Grothouse Original Oilâ„¢. Grothouse Original Oilâ„¢ is completely food safe and compliments the desired use for direct food preparation. The oil needs to be maintained on a regular basis depending on the environment and amount of use.

Saxon Wood™ Counters and Bar Tops can be finished with either Grothouse Original Oil™ or Durata® Permanent Finish. They can also be stained with Grothouse Stock Stains or Custom Stain Matched to a customer provided sample. Any stained wood counter or bar top must be sealed with Durata® Permanent Finish.
