Custom Wood Butcher Block Countertops with Overmount or Undermount Sinks

Butcher Block Countertops with Undermount Sinks
Butcher Block Countertops manufactured by Grothouse can be safely used with undermount sinks. The opening is properly sealed with an invisible barrier to protect from water damage. Proper care should be taken not to allow standing water around the sink area and proper oiling of the butcher block surface will assist in protecting your surface. The butcher block will overhang the sink opening by roughly 1/8″ so the top lip of the sink is not visible. If the sink is custom manufactured, it may require you to send the sink to Grothouse to assure we cut a proper sink opening size. Most sinks manufacturers have templates available online for us to use for cut out specifications. The opening for the sink is relieved to 1-1/2″ for comfortable access to the sink cavity. An example of an undermount sink application is shown in the photography above.
All butcher block countertops with undermount sinks are covered with a Grothouse Lifetime Warranty provided they are properly installed according to our instructions. Our installation instructions are provided with every shipment. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding our installation instructions. Butcher Blocks with Undermount Sinks are not available to be finished with our Durata® Permanent Finish and cannot have a stain application. Butcher Blocks are always finished with Grothouse Original Oil™.

Butcher Block Countertops with Overmount Sinks
While the overmount sink style can help protect the surface of the butcher block surrounding the sink, the lip can be an area where water collects between the lip and on the surface of the counter. We do prefer undermount sinks be used with butcher block, however clients successfully have overmount sinks with butcher blocks when water is not allowed to sit and collect around the sink. The opening for the sink is relieved to 1-1/2″ for comfortable access to the sink cavity. Butcher Block Care | Grothouse Original Oil | Cleaning
Caring for butcher block surfaces is surprisingly simple. We recommend cleaning the surface with common dish detergent. The surface should be kept moisturized with The Original oil finish. Most surfaces should be oiled monthly, but the frequency can vary based on the environment and use. When the wood appears dry, it is time to oil. Stains can be removed with a poultice of sea salt and lemon juice. When allowed to dry, the salt absorbs the stain and extracts it from the wood fibers. If light scratches occur, sand the surface lightly with 220 grit sandpaper and re-apply Grothouse Original Oilâ„¢. Caring for a butcher block surface is simple and the ability to sand out scratches provides a worry-free surface.
