stove and sink cutouts allow for seamless, integrated elegance

There’s no need to chose between sophistication or function. With Grothouse custom cutouts for sinks and stoves, you can have it all. Stoves and sinks can be used with counters sealed with Grothouse Original Oilâ„¢ finish or Durata® waterproof permanent finish. Grothouse Original Oil finish should be chosen if you plan on chopping directly on the wood countertop and do not mind re-oiling the top on a monthly basis. Durata® permanent finish should be chosen if you want a maintenance free finish that is permanent and do not plan on chopping on your counter.

Wood Countertops with Undermount Sinks

Wood Countertops with Undermount sinks are the most popular style of sink we accommodate. The undermount sink style is our preferred style to use with wood countertops. They provide a clean line on the surface and also enable us to incorporate drainboards when used with Durata® waterproof finish. We recommend a 1/2″ radius edge profile to be used on the sink opening but can accommodate a variety of edge profiles to suit your design.

The openings are cut based on your centerline placement with a preferred set back of 3 to 4 inches from the edge of the counter. The cut out size is typically based on the manufacturer template, or a handmade physical template for custom made one of a kind sinks. It is rare that we require the actual sink to do the cut out. The countertop will be designed to overhang the sink opening by 1/8″ to allow water to naturally fall into the sink and not collect on the sink ledge.

Wood Countertops with Overmount Sinks

Wood countertops with overmount sinks are cut out to the sink opening based on the manufacturers specifications and the centerline dimensions you provide. We prefer a setback of 3 inches from the edge of the counter.

Overmount sinks are self rimmining and the lip of the sink frames the sink opening. We prefer to finish countertops containing overmount sinks with Durata® waterproof finish.

Wood Countertops with Faucets

Wood countertops finished with Grothouse Original Oilâ„¢ can be cut on-site or by Grothouse. We do recommend that wood countertops sealed with Durata® waterproof finish have the faucet holes cut by Grothouse. This ensures the faucet openings are sealed and waterproof in the event of a leak. Faucet holes are relieved to the standard thickness required by the faucet manufacturer for ease of installation. A good rule of thumb is to have the faucet spout be aligned to the sink drain to alleviate excessive splashing when running the water. Refer to the sink manufacturer’s recommendation for faucet placement to assure proper installation and performance.

Wood Countertops with Stoves

Wood countertops for kitchens often contain drop-in stove inserts of gas, electric, or induction. They can be safely used following the manufacturer’s instructions. As heat rises, most stove manufacturers are concerned with flammable materials above the counter surface. Slide-in ranges should be installed, so the stove surface is level with the countertop. This can be accomplished by adjusting the feet of the slide-in stove.
