Summary or notes: The all heartwood walnut island countertop has been specially constructed to contain only the darker wood (heartwood) of the tree. This eliminates the lighter blonde sapwood that would be too busy for this design. The large island countertop is 50-1/2" wide and a great example of why wood is an excellent choice for large islands. Granite often requires a seam for larger sized islands which can be an undesirable element. Grothouse wood countertops are custom made to order so there are typically no visible seams unless requested by the client. The island provides ample seating and an additional sink for food prep. A lovely traditional kitchen designed by a talented design firm.
