Grothouse products play a pivotal role in bringing Jennifer Gilmer’s designs to life. Our custom wood surfaces and specialty finishes provide the perfect canvas for her innovative ideas. Each piece is meticulously crafted to match her exact specifications, ensuring a seamless fit with her design ethos.

Jennifer appreciates the versatility and quality of Grothouse products. They offer the durability and unique textures needed to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional.

Jennifer emphasizes the importance of understanding her clients’ preferences and lifestyle needs. She believes that creating a design that reflects the client’s personality is crucial. By delving into their likes, dislikes, and how they intend to live in the space, she crafts designs that are both beautiful and functional.

Jennifer’s viewpoint is that beauty should never be compromised for functionality. She believes that both can be achieved harmoniously. When designing kitchens, she takes into account key details such as the type of cooking the clients intend to do, their daily coffee rituals, the number of family members using the space, appliances, and color and surface preferences. These details guide her in selecting the tools and textures that will be incorporated into the final design.

The New Fashioned Kitchen Project

This kitchen and family room project are both charming and sophisticated. The design was created by Jennifer and one of her top designers, Marie-Josée Parisi. The client’s wish was to improve the flow of their kitchen, build an island and create a family room space next to it. This was accomplished by expanding the space into their existing garage.

One of Jennifer and Marie-Josée unique design features crafted by Grothouse was the exquisite custom White Oak top which became an integral part of the overall effect.

“While the materials we chose create a lot of texture to the space, the White Oak wood top from Grothouse is very special. The Grothouse team did a tremendous job at matching the wood top with the complex finish and texture of the cabinetry and executed the Pastore™ Waterfall design on the front and back of the island flawlessly.” Marie-Josée notes.

The custom Pastore™ Waterfall table was crafted using Edge Grain Rift Cut White Oak. To get the accurate color and texture, the countertop required sample-matching for a stain and glaze application along with hand wire brushing. The Pastore™ Waterfall table was coated in DurataⓇ permanent finish in Matte to ensure the ultimate in water and chemical protection.

The New Fashioned Neutral Colored Kitchen

This kitchen is everything that its title implies and shows the many diverse ways that wood surfaces can be used to enhance the beauty of any kitchen.

Jennifer’s advice to fellow designers is not to shy away from using wood surfaces. She attests to their durability and versatility, highlighting that wood surfaces can be customized with different textures to achieve a variety of unique looks.

She believes that the authenticity of wood adds character to any space. When incorporated into a design, the grain and textures of wood bring a sense of nature and comfort, making it a timeless choice.

Emerging Innovation: The Latest Trends in Custom Wood Surface Design

Jennifer is seeing intriguing focal points as a new trend in home designs, highlighting that wood surface countertops or butcher blocks can be customized to create beautiful yet functional focal points.

One concept is a coffee or liquor bar made with open areas between tall cabinets, full-height backsplashes, wood countertops, and extending surfaces that seamlessly integrate with the surrounding cabinetry. Grothouse wood countertops and butcher blocks provide the essential elements that make these focal points both beautiful and practical.

Jennifer Gilmer’s expertise and creative vision continue to inspire homeowners and designers alike. Her passion for creating spaces that are both functional and beautiful is evident in every project she undertakes. In collaboration with Grothouse, she seamlessly incorporates the artistry and quality of wood surfaces into her designs, enhancing their timeless elegance.
