Wenge Countertops | Constructions

Wenge Countertops can be made in three construction styles: Flat Grain Construction (also known as Wide Plank), Edge Grain Construction, and End Grain Construction (also known as Butcher Block). Wenge Wood Countertops made of all three construction styles are used in many different style kitchens.

Pictured below is a Wenge Wood Countertop made in Edge grain construction. This Wenge countertop was designed by The Shadowlight Group for this traditional style kitchen. The first thing you see when you look at this space is the Wenge countertop.

The Showcase Kitchens design seen below won the SUB-ZERO WOLF Best of the Best, Kitchen Design Competition 2010-2012 for the NY-NJ region. This kitchen includes a Wenge Butcher Block Countertop. The kitchen includes a Range-craft stainless steel hood and the absolute best Wolf and Sub Zero appliances.

Renowned kitchen designer Mick De Giulio included Flat Grain Wenge Counters for the House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year 2012, as seen below. The white island cabinetry is complimented by Wenge wood countertops in this transitional style kitchen.  Mick De Giulio designed the counters to provide a warm seating area for this large kitchen island.

Wenge originates in Congo, Cameroon, Gabon, Tanzania, and Mozambique in Africa. Wenge is typically used for furniture, but can also be used for violin bows, block and strip flooring, boat building, and construction work.  Wenge is available FSC certified.
